Midwest Drafting & Design

Building A New Home

  1. Our first meeting is at the site so that we can fully understand the limitations and opportunities the site has to offer. The Land.
  2. Our second meeting is at your home so that I can better get to know you. I want to know about your family, your lifestyle, your occupations, your history, and your future. I can't help you obtain your dreams unless I know you. Meeting interesting people and creating friendships is another reason I enjoy my work.
  3. Our next few meetings (anywhere from 2 to 876) are held in your home creating, defining, and detailing our ideas into a home design that fits you and your wishes perfectly. At every design meeting, I provide numerous in-color 3D views to help you visualize the end result. I also provide you with a CD-ROM containing all those views for you to review later. I feel it is incredibly important that you spend time studying the drawings and the 3D views so that you'll fully understand the design.
  4. During the design process, I recommend creating preliminary quote drawings and sending them out for preliminary quote bids to ensure we're on the right path.
  5. Once we feel that we're getting close to finalizing the design, I recommend having the builder attend a meeting. Truthfully, I would be happy if the builder attended every meeting, but I want to utilize their time efficiently. A successful team effort will result in success for everyone.
  6. Once everyone is happy with the final design, I convert the design into a complete set of construction drawings.
  7. Once the construction drawings are approved by the builder, MIDWEST Drafting & Design prints as many sets as required. These plans then are handed out to all of the subcontractors and material suppliers. Everyone from electricians to truss manufacturers will work off of these drawings to bid and plan their work.
  8. The next step is for the builder to take over. The builder will guide you in determining what decisions have to be made (picking faucets, siding color, HVAC, etc.) and when they have to be made. MIDWEST Drafting & Design will check in often and at all times be available for any questions during construction from you or your builder.
  9. Ground breaking begins!!!

My goal is your successful project.

MIDWEST Drafting & Design also offers AutoCAD and Softplan Consulting services, along with large format color plotting services.

"Working with an established and reputable designer like Shawn at MIDWEST Drafting & Design makes my job easier. By having a clear and concise plan to follow, it saves time, money, and frustration for the builder, material supplier, and truss manufacturer. There is no guessing or padding to allow for discrepancies in interpretation of the drawings. What little a well drawn plan costs, it will save that homeowner that money back in add-ons and change orders "
